As we head into Giving Tuesday and the holiday season of 2022, the demand for our services has never been greater. Baby Boomers continue aging out and so many parrots and exotic pet birds are being uprooted by the death and incapacitation of their owners. This year we have found ourselves at our near capacity over 75% of the time and, for the first time in our 10 year history, have had to turn away people and birds in need because we just don't have the space to take any more!

In addition to the sheer numbers of intakes, many birds arrive on a very poor diet and without any veterinary intervention -- some for their entire lives! In addition to a huge increase in veterinary/medical expenses, the inflationary economy has caused the prices of everything we need has increased. Parrot food costs have nearly doubled across the board. Toys, if we can find them (thanks to supply chain problems), are anywhere from 30% to 100% more costly than they were just one year ago. Even simple things, like syringes to administer oral medications, have skyrocketed in price.

So, while the massive Capital Campaign to build our new shelter facility in the Village of Nassau, NY still looms large, this campaign will focus purely on operating costs -- to get us through the rest of 2022 and also to give us a kick-start on the new year, where just about anything can (and likely will) happen.

Your donation, be it $5.00 or $5,000 will go directly to the supporting the birds in our care. We are an all-volunteer organization with the leanest administration budget possible so that every dollar we receive can be stretched as far as possible.

Thank you so much for considering a donation to our end-of-year call to action. From all of us to all of yours, we wish the very best for this holiday season!
